On April 17, 2022, The University of Danang \u2013 University of Science and Technology (UD-DUT) partnered with Chevron, the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization \u2013 STEM Education Centre (SEAMEO STEM-ED), and other public agencies to launch a program called,\u201d STEM Career Academies in Central Vietnam Project \u2013 A Regional Approach for Raising Social Awareness and Building STEM Education and Human Resource Capacity\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With its partners, DUT initiated this collaborative project to raise awareness and to pilot a STEM career education program in the Central region of Vietnam. This 18-month project aims to strengthen institutional capacities for implementing STEM-related career education and career inspiration program in order to motivate students\u2019 interest in pursuing STEM careers, and to better prepare them for the future of work or post-secondary education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This project has three main components:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(1) STEM Workshops<\/strong>. These aim to promote awareness and capacity building for higher-secondary teachers and students in support of STEM education and STEM Career Academies development in Vietnam,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(2) STEM competition<\/strong>. This will be organized to motivate higher-secondary students to develop innovative STEM projects and engage them in teamwork, communication, problem solving, as well as prepare them for future careers, and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(3) STEM short-course professional development.<\/strong> This component will cover a series of certified short courses to develop students on selected specialized professional skills and essential soft skills which are required by employers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roundtable Discusions \u201cSTEM Education \u2013 Opportunities and Challenges\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The STEM Career Academies project plans to pilot one career academy in technology and engineering with professional development curricula for four selected industrial sectors; to enroll 20 STEM employers or enterprises, and to enlist the commitment of 10 high schools in this project. Upon the completion of the program piloting, the finding of the program effectiveness study will be presented to relevant government and private stakeholders for consideration of program expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
